A mantel sits directly over a firebox that was built by someone else, so the fit depends on field measurement, not a stock size. We fabricate each mantel from full-thickness solid stock or a single slab, sized to your firebox opening and required fire clearance, then scribe the back face on site to whatever the surround actually looks like, whether that's stone, stucco, or tile.

These are shop samples photographed under shop lighting. We list a wood species only when the original sample board says so, and we don't guess it from the photo. The same finish reads differently on a different species, in different light, and at a different sheen, so a physical sample is always the deciding reference.
Design considerations
- Required clearance from the firebox opening is a code requirement, and mantel depth and mounting height are set to that clearance, not to aesthetics alone.
- A live-edge or full slab mantel shows grain and character that glued-up stock will not, but slab availability limits length and thickness.
- Corbels are shop-fit to the mantel's grain before finishing so the joint reads as continuous.
- Surround materials like stone or stucco are rarely flat, so the mantel back is scribed on site rather than caulked to close a gap.
Installation requirements
- Concealed steel mounting is anchored into framing or blocking behind the surround, confirmed during field verification.
- Surround work such as stone or tile should be complete, or its rough opening confirmed, before the mantel is fabricated.
- Required fire clearances are confirmed against the firebox before final mounting height is set.
