What happens between your first message and the finished install.
Every project moves through the same sequence, from initial review through the final walkthrough. Here's what we do at each stage, and what we need from you to keep it moving.
- 01
Initial project review
We read the request, the photos, and any plans or elevations, then tell you whether the project fits what we do and roughly where it lands.
You provide: Dimensions, photos, inspiration images, plans or elevations if they exist.
- 02
Site visit and field verification
We take field measurements on site and record existing conditions: stud locations, blocking, substrate, whether walls are square and floors are level, access, and the rough opening we're actually building to.
You provide: Access to the space and to anyone else working in it.
- 03
Material and finish selection
We recommend wood species, material grade, and thickness based on the finish, the dimensions, expected movement, load requirements, and installation conditions. Paint-grade and stain-grade are decided here, not later.
You provide: Finish direction, and approval of a finish sample where one applies.
- 04
Scope and proposal
A written proposal states the scope of work, the selections, the price, and the exclusions for that project.
You provide: Written approval of the scope and the proposal.
- 05
Shop drawings or design approval
Where the project needs them, shop drawings go out for review so dimensions, reveals, profiles, and details are agreed before anything is cut.
You provide: Submittal and finish-sample approvals.
- 06
Fabrication
Milling, joinery, and assembly happen in the shop, built to the field dimensions rather than to a catalog size.
You provide: Deposit, per the deposit policy, before materials are ordered or production begins.
- 07
Finishing
Shop finishing to the approved sample, whether that's paint-grade, stain-grade, or a clear coat. Some elements are field-finished when the sequence calls for it.
You provide: Approved finish sample.
- 08
Delivery and installation
Installation on site by the same crew: scribing to existing conditions, anchoring into framing or blocking, setting reveals, and field-fitting where the room isn't square.
You provide: Site readiness, access, and coordination with other trades.
- 09
Final walkthrough and punch list
We walk the work with you, list anything outstanding, make final adjustments, and close the project out.
You provide: A walkthrough with whoever signs off.
Most standard projects are completed within approximately 3 to 6 weeks after the required deposit has been paid. Larger or highly customized projects may require approximately 8 to 10 weeks after the required deposit has been paid. Timing may vary based on project complexity, material availability, approvals, production requirements, customer changes, and site readiness.
Anything that isn't a stock item is a one off custom or special order. Custom, one off, and special order materials require a 100% material deposit before materials are ordered or production begins. The material deposit is nonrefundable once materials have been ordered or production has begun.
Stock item orders require a 50% nonrefundable deposit.
Walls may be out of square, floors may be out of level, and existing framing and surfaces may be uneven. Existing construction can vary from room to room, and these conditions may affect fit, installation, transitions, and appearance.
Before we mobilize for installation, the site needs to be ready:
- -Framing, blocking, and substrate in place where the millwork anchors
- -Drywall complete in the install area unless the scope says otherwise
- -Flooring status confirmed, since it sets base and casing heights
- -Electrical and plumbing rough-ins complete behind the work
- -Clear access to the room and a path to move long material
- -Power on site
- -Furniture and personal belongings moved out of the work area
